MarketMeTweet + Ping.fm = more blog traffic

Since switching from the Twitter client TweetDeck over to MarketMeTweet, I’ve been playing around with the many features it offers. One of them is integration with Ping.fm.

What does that mean?

Well, Ping.fm is an all-purpose site that lets you update all your social media accounts at once. Using Ping.fm, you link together all your other social networking accounts — not just Facebook and Twitter but your microblogs, etc at Tumblr, Ning, FriendFeed, Delicious, Google Buzz, LinkedIn, Flickr and many more.

Unlike other Twitter clients, MarketMeTweet connects your Twitter to your Ping.fm account. Then when you post a tweet from MarketMeTweet, that post automatically goes out to all your Ping.fm networks.

HERE’S WHAT TO DO:

Sign up for Ping.fm (it’s free) and under “Social Networks”, add all the networks you’ve already got accounts with, like Facebook and Twitter.

Now — and this is the labor intensive part — browse the other sites Ping.fm can connect with.

Don’t have an Ning page? Why not set one up, for yourself and/or for your business? Same for Tumblr and so on.

These and other microblogging sites are really easy to set up. They don’t have to be anything fancy. And now, with MarketMeTweet/Ping.fm integration, they’re no trouble to update after the initial set-up. After all, their fresh content will come from your Twitter feed!

Why do you want to have all these sites?

Because Google measures your main site’s popularity based on links. Period. My Ning and Tumblr sites aren’t that important to me, EXCEPT that they point back to my “real” blog and to my online resume/portfolio (my official “FirstNameLastName.com” domain — you’ve got yours, right?)

Those two main sites of mine are the ones I want to promote the most. I want them to rank on Google’s first page if possible. So I need as many other sites linking to them as I can. That’s where these other sites come in.

When you set up microblogs at Ning, Posterous, Tumblr and so forth, do what I did and add links to all your “real” websites. Every outside link to your “real” site tells Google it is popular. And that means it will rank higher in Google searches.

(Read this report about getting on Google’s all important page one results to learn more. Remember: 90% of Google users never click past that first page, so showing up there is important!)

Now that you’ve spent some time doing all this set up work through Ping.fm, you have a network of high ranking, popular sites, all linked together and designed to spread your tweets to a wider audience.

Then go back to MarketMeTweet, click on “Settings” and connect your Ping.fm account. (In the “key” field, enter the code you’ll find here.)

Now, every time you send out a tweet through MarketMeTweet, it gets blasted out across your new personal Ping.fm network of microblogs and social media sites. You don’t have to think about it. Once you set it up, MarketMeTweet does it automatically.

THE RESULTS?

Since integrating MarketMeTweet and Ping.fm, traffic to my main blog has increased dramatically.

PLUS: My Twitter account is “branded” through MarketMeTweet, with a clickable link back to my blog. AND my blog’s new posts all get posted to MarketMeTweet automatically, too, using their RSS integration option.

As a result, far more people are exposed to my blog than before. I haven’t made any other changes to my blog this week, but traffic is up noticeably.

The Ping.fm option is just another one of the unique features that makes MarketMeTweet my favorite Twitter desktop client.
